Persuasive Speech - Why It Is Important For Children To Engage With The News
During Term Two we had been learning how to write and present a speech. Once we had written our speech, we had to present it in front of an audience, our classmates. While I was writing my speech I faced a challenge coming up with 3 different ideas I could make into paragraphs, I also think I did well at using a variety of sentences. When I was presenting my speech I think I did well at making eye contact with the audience. A few of my classmates peer-assessed me while I was presenting my speech, their feedback was that I had a clear voice and I was confident.

Magic Steel Ad Reflection
For the past few weeks we have been making an ad. We decided to make an ad about a stapler, Magic Steel! I think we worked well as a team, by sharing the editing, acting and planning. A complication we faced was the filming, because when we filmed a scene the first and last few seconds of the recording got cut out, so it took a bit longer than we expecting to film all the scenes. We planned well so we had a clear view of what we were doing, which was really helpful. If we did this again then I would prefer to have the camera at a higher level, because I found the angle a bit weird. Overall I think we did a good job at advertising our product and we also had fun making it.

Homelinks Week 6
This week for homelinks I decided to write a reflection on the netball tournament that we went to on Tuesday.
On Tuesday our class (Ruma J) participated in a school netball tournament in Greymouth. The weather was quite nice, not too windy or rainy but the courts were a bit wet.We were all very excited to play because we had been training and many of us had not played netball before. The first game we played was against a Grey Main school team. We didn’t play too well in our first game but after that we played really good. As the day went on we got better. I think our best game was probably one of our last few games. Overall it was really a enjoyable day for everyone. We all played really good, as a team and individually.

On Saturday I was in town all day. After mum finished work we went the hospital because mum had to get her ear checked. Once that was finished we went to dad's friend's house near Hokitika. We got home at around 11. On Sunday we stayed at home and watched a Nepali movie other than that we didn't do much.

'On the Wallaby Track' Artwork Response
On the Wallaby Track Response
On the Wallaby Track, created in 1896, by Frederick McCubbin is a realistic oil painting set in the bush. In the painting there is a family of three that look as though they are struggling. The family is surrounded by tree that look old but still healthy. In the background sunlight and bright colours can be seen but in the foreground and middle ground only dull colours have been used. The foreground consist of a women holding a tried and hungry looking child while leaning against tree, with a worried expression.
On the Wallaby Track is an intriguing piece of art that makes viewers think about the before and after of the family’s struggles.
The colours used in this artwork change the mood. The oranges and pinks in the background of this artwork resemble a sunrise or sunset; I think they lighten the mood and represent hope in the family’s life. The colours used in the foreground of this artwork darken the mood and make the artworks mood have more depth.
The first time I viewed this artwork I thought that the family was camping because of the blue tent in the background behind the bush. After viewing this artwork a second time, the family looks like they plan to stay longer because they don’t look happy and their clothes look tattered. The family look like they have had a big eventful week and they have been through rough times.
Overall On the Wallaby Track is a detailed piece of art that has a deep meaning and story to tell. I recommend for everyone to visit http://www.the-athenaeum.org/ to view more of Frederick McCubbin’s amazing artwork.

Cross Country
Yesterday we had cross country at the Kumara race course. The year 8's had to run 3 kilo meters, year 4's had to run 1 km which was one lap around the course, year 5's and 6's 2 kms. Everyone did really well in all the races. I came 4th in my race, which i'm quite proud of. The weather worsened through out the day, but it wasn't that bad.

Weekend Journal #10
On Friday we had visitors from Ashburton come to our house. Most of the adults (6) and I stayed up till around 4:30 because the adults were playing card and I was watching. On Saturday My sister and I went with the visitors to Punakaiki, it was still fun but I didn't enjoy it much because I have already been there many times. There were a few kids that were my age so I enjoyed them coming over. On Sunday the visitors left so didn't do anything. When it was around 5 pm I felt like running and I also needed cross country practice so I ran 1.2 km, I had timed myself so know that I ran 1.2 km in 9 minutes and 36 seconds, my next goal is to go the same distance in 9 minutes.

A Journey Not To Be Forgotten - Narrative Writing
This term we have been writing narratives. We used The Game Of Awesome and The Literacy Shed to help come up with our stories. I really liked how there were no boundaries on what we could write about, but it had to be controlled. Next time I would like to describe more parts of my story with 'show don't tell'. Here is a video of me reading my story.

Weekend Journal #7
On Friday after school my family went to a farm to collect fire wood, we were there from 4:30 to around 7. On Saturday we spent most of the day making dumplings since we were going to a potluck dinner, the potluck was quite boring since there weren't any kids that were my age there. On Sunday it was raining so we didn't do anything much.
